The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has released the official payment schedule for social grants in April 2025.
Beneficiaries across the country can now plan ahead to collect their grants, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free disbursement process.
Official Payment Dates for April 2025
SASSA follows a structured schedule when disbursing grants each month. For April 2025, the payment dates are as follows:
- Older Persons Grant – Tuesday, April 1, 2025
- Disability Grants – Wednesday, April 2, 2025
- Children’s Grants – Thursday, April 3, 2025
These dates follow SASSA’s standard payment structure, where older persons receive their grants first, followed by disability grants, and finally, children’s grants.
Transition to the Postbank Black Card
Beneficiaries should also take note of the ongoing transition from the SASSA Gold Card to the new Postbank Black Card.
The deadline for the card swap has been extended to March 20, 2025. Those who have not yet exchanged their gold cards are urged to do so to avoid disruptions in receiving their grants.
However, for those who miss the deadline, alternative payment methods will remain in place until June 30, 2025.
Grant Increases in April 2025
SASSA has also confirmed that social grant amounts will increase from April 1, 2025. This adjustment aims to provide additional financial relief amid the rising cost of living.
The exact increase amounts for each grant category are expected to be announced before the end of March 2025.
How to Collect Your Grant
Beneficiaries can access their grants through multiple channels, including:
- Direct deposits into bank accounts
- Withdrawals from ATMs
- Retailers such as Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Checkers, and Boxer
- Post Office branches (for those still transitioning to the new card)
To avoid long queues, beneficiaries are encouraged not to rush to collection points on the first day of payments, as funds will remain available for withdrawal at their convenience.
Stay Updated
SASSA urges all beneficiaries to stay informed through official communication channels, including their website and social media platforms, to receive timely updates regarding grants and any potential changes to the payment process.
With these measures in place, SASSA aims to ensure a seamless and efficient disbursement of grants in April 2025, helping millions of South Africans who rely on these essential funds for daily survival.
