Epicure Ceases Operations After Over 30 Years in Business

North Saanich’s Epicure, a beloved family-owned company that revolutionized healthy eating for Canadians, has officially ceased operations.

The closure was announced on January 24, 2025, by founder Sylvie Rochette, marking the end of more than three decades of promoting wholesome and accessible home cooking.

Epicure, renowned for its nut- and gluten-free kitchen and food products, built a loyal following across Canada and beyond.

The company was a pioneer in the healthy living movement, offering products that empowered families to create nourishing meals quickly and easily.

Despite its strong brand and loyal customer base, financial challenges—exacerbated by the ongoing impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic—proved insurmountable.

“This is a heartbreaking decision for us,” Rochette said in a statement. “Epicure was born from a dream to inspire healthy living, and it has been our mission to support families in bringing wholesome meals to their tables.

Unfortunately, the financial hurdles we faced were too great to overcome.”

At its peak, Epicure employed around 200 people and operated from its headquarters on Vancouver Island.

The company was also supported by a vast network of independent consultants who helped distribute Epicure’s products and share its vision of clean eating.

Community members and employees expressed sadness at the closure, reflecting on the company’s profound impact. “Epicure was more than a business; it was a family,” said one long-time employee.

“It’s devastating to see this chapter come to an end.”

The company’s closure highlights the ongoing challenges faced by small and medium-sized businesses in recovering from the pandemic.

While Epicure attempted to adapt to the shifting economic landscape, the financial strain ultimately proved too great.
