Jennifer Rubin Resigns from The Washington Post, Joins Substack with New Venture

In a significant shake-up in the media landscape, prominent columnist Jennifer Rubin has announced her resignation from The Washington Post after more than a decade of political commentary.

Rubin, known for her influential “Right Turn” blog and her outspoken critiques of former President Donald Trump, is stepping away from traditional journalism to launch a new independent platform on Substack.

Her new venture, titled The Contrarian, will see Rubin co-authoring content with Norm Eisen, a former special counsel to President Obama, marking a new chapter in her career as she embraces the independent journalism model.

The decision is part of a growing trend where established journalists leave traditional outlets to build niche, subscription-based audiences, bypassing traditional media’s advertising-driven model.

Rubin joined The Washington Post in 2010 and became a well-respected voice in American political commentary.

Over the years, she shifted from conservative viewpoints to adopt a more centrist stance, especially during the Trump administration.

Her departure from The Washington Post comes as a reflection of the changing media landscape, where digital subscriptions and independent content creation are gaining momentum.

Her move to Substack, a popular platform for independent writers, highlights a broader shift in the media industry towards a more personalized, direct relationship between journalists and readers.

With an increasing number of high-profile writers making similar transitions, Rubin’s decision is poised to further impact the traditional media business model, which is already undergoing significant disruption due to shifts in consumer preferences for digital, subscription-based news.

For readers, The Contrarian promises a mix of political analysis and current affairs, as Rubin and Eisen aim to engage with their audience on a deeper, more direct level.

This change is likely to influence both media trends and market dynamics as the rise of independent journalism challenges the status quo.
