Ethiopian Airlines steps up push for Africa dominance

[dropcap]E[/dropcap]thiopian Airlines Group continues to penetrate African market in its push to become a dominant player on the continent.

Early this month, the Ethiopian carrier partnered with Mozambique Airlines to launch domestic flights in Mozambique as part of its strategy to penetrate new African routes,according to Tewolde Gebremariam,Ethiopian Airways chief executive.

Ethiopian Mozambique Airlines will help connect eight domestic destinations in the southern African nation.They include  Maputo, Nampula, Tete, Pemba, Beira, Nacala, Quelimane and Chimoio.

“The launch of Ethiopian Mozambique Airlines is part of our Vision 2025 multiple hub strategy in Africa of boosting air connectivity in our vast continent to support its socio-economic transformation,” said Mr Gebremariam.

Under the vision 2025 strategy, Ethiopia Airlines plans to become leading aviation group in Africa with Six business centers namely: Ethiopian International Services; Ethiopian Cargo & Logistics Services; Ethiopian MRO Services; Ethiopian Aviation Academy; Ethiopian ADD Hub Ground Services and Ethiopian Airports Services.

The carrier is in talks with Democratic Republic of Congo, Congo Republic and Djibouti about either launching airlines or securing landing spots.

Mr Gebremariam hopes that with a market driven and customer focused approach, Ethiopian Mozambique Airline will succeed in its objectives and take its rightful place in the continent’s aviation landscape with the strong support of the Group.
