Kenya will not impose new travel restriction on travelers from China even as the country records fresh Covid-19 infections.
A host of countries including India and the United States now require travelers from China to present a negative covid-19 test or go for quarantine. But Kenya is hesitant to take such action as it will hurt the economy that is currently struggling.
“In my view, I don’t think it’s going to be necessary for us to impose any travel restrictions on travelers from China. Some of those restrictions we impose have an economic impact,” said Health Cabinet secretary Susan Nakhumicha.
Kenya has also reported missing its Covid-19 vaccination target for 2022 by 4.1 million doses amid an increasing struggle by the Ministry of Health to convince the unvaccinated to go for the shot.
Kenya had set its first vaccination target of at least 20 million doses between January and June 2022 but managed 18.5 million.
