Water Pressure Issues Affecting Eastern Henrico County, Restoration Efforts Underway

Eastern Henrico County is currently experiencing significant water pressure issues, affecting communities such as Sandston, White Oak, and Varina.

On January 6, 2025, residents reported low to no water pressure in their homes as the county’s water services were impacted by a series of unfortunate events.

The disruption was triggered by an unexpected power outage at the City of Richmond’s water treatment facility, which supplies water to the region. As a result of the outage, Henrico County had to disconnect from the City of Richmond’s water system and instead rely on its own water treatment plant.

This move was necessary to prevent further strain on the affected infrastructure, but it led to a temporary reduction in water pressure for Henrico County residents.

Compounding the problem, a water main break occurred in the same area, further exacerbating the situation. These two factors combined to leave many residents without adequate water supply for several hours.

Despite the challenges, the Henrico County Department of Public Utilities has been working diligently to resolve the issue.

Crews have been focused on restoring water pressure and are optimistic that normal service will be restored by the afternoon of January 7, 2025.

In a statement released earlier today, Henrico County officials assured residents that a boil water advisory would not be required in the county. This stands in contrast to the City of Richmond, which issued a boil water advisory for its residents after the power outage affected its water supply.

The Henrico County Department of Public Utilities has urged all affected residents to report any ongoing water issues. In case of emergencies, including water main breaks or sewer problems during non-business hours, residents can reach the department at 804-501-5025.
