ChatGPT Faces Global Outage, Millions of Users Left Unable to Access AI Service

openAI’s popular AI chatbot, ChatGPT, is experiencing a significant global outage, leaving millions of users unable to access the service.

Reports of issues began to spike around midday, with users encountering messages such as “Bad Gateway” and “Internal Server Error” when attempting to log in or use the platform.

According to Downdetector, a website that tracks service interruptions, there have been over 1,000 reports from users facing difficulties accessing ChatGPT.

Many took to social media to express their frustration, with one user lamenting, “chatgpt please fix it all our history is in your hand we need our history back.” Another user described the situation as their “second brain just stopped working!”

The outage is not only affecting individual users but also businesses that rely on OpenAI’s API for their operations. Companies have reported disruptions to their services due to the inability to access the chatbot.

This incident marks the third major outage for ChatGPT since December 2024, raising concerns about the platform’s reliability.

OpenAI has acknowledged the issue and stated that they are currently investigating the cause of the outage.

On their Status page, they noted “degraded performance” and confirmed that they are working on a fix.

As of now, there is no official timeline for when services will be fully restored. This latest disruption comes amid ongoing tensions between tech leaders in the AI space.

Earlier today, Elon Musk publicly criticized OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman over a $500 billion AI infrastructure project announced by former President Donald Trump, further highlighting the competitive landscape within the industry.

As users await resolution, this outage underscores the importance of reliable technology infrastructure in an increasingly digital world.
