SASSA Grant: March Payment Dates, Gold Card Rush, and April Increases

As March unfolds, SASSA beneficiaries are bracing for significant changes in how they receive their grants.

Here’s an update on the key developments affecting SASSA grant recipients this month and beyond.

March Payment Dates

SASSA has confirmed the payment schedule for March 2025. Beneficiaries can expect their grants on the following dates:

  • Older Persons Grant: Tuesday, March 4

  • Disability Grant: Wednesday, March 5

  • Child Support Grant and other grants: Thursday, March 6.

For SRD R370 grant recipients, payments will start from March 24 and continue until March 29.

Gold Card Rush: Transition to Postbank Black Cards

The deadline to replace SASSA gold cards with the new Postbank black cards has been extended to March 20, 2025. Beneficiaries who have not yet made the switch can still use their gold cards for the March payment cycle. However, after March 20, gold cards will be disabled, and beneficiaries will need to access their funds through alternative methods or obtain the new black cards.

To facilitate the transition, Postbank has increased the number of card replacement sites, including major retailers like Pick n Pay, Shoprite, and Spar stores. Beneficiaries can locate these sites by contacting Postbank directly or checking with local retailers.

April Increases

SASSA beneficiaries are anticipating grant increases starting April 1, 2025. These adjustments are typically announced during the annual Budget Speech, which has been postponed until March 12.

While the exact increases have not been disclosed, they usually range from R10 to R90, depending on the grant type.

Accessing Grants

Beneficiaries can collect their grants through various channels, including bank accounts, retail outlets, and mobile cash pay points. It’s crucial for recipients to ensure their bank details are accurate to avoid payment delays.

As SASSA continues to evolve its payment systems, beneficiaries are urged to stay informed about these changes to ensure smooth access to their grants.
