Power Outage Disrupts Operations at BWI Airport, Flights Affected

A significant power outage struck Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) on Monday morning, causing disruptions to flight operations and impacting areas of the main terminal and the hourly garage.

The outage, which began at approximately 7:40 a.m. due to a downed power line south of the airport, has led to over 100 flight delays.

Crews from Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) are actively working to restore power, but as of now, no estimated time for full restoration has been provided.

Despite the challenges, some flights continue to operate, although travelers are advised to anticipate potential delays and check their flight status with their airlines.

The power outage has also resulted in the diversion of inbound flights, further complicating travel plans for passengers.

A ground stop was implemented from 8:21 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. EST, as per the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Airport officials are urging passengers to stay informed about their flight schedules through their respective airlines. The situation remains fluid, with updates expected as the situation develops.

This incident highlights the challenges faced by major transportation hubs when unexpected disruptions occur, emphasizing the need for robust contingency plans to minimize the impact on travelers.

As crews work to resolve the issue, travelers are advised to remain vigilant and flexible with their travel arrangements.
