Food Safety Alert: What You Need to Know About the Pams Chicken Nuggets Recall

A major food safety alert has been issued in New Zealand following the recall of Pams brand Tempura Coated Chicken Nuggets (1kg) due to possible contamination with blue rubber fragments.

The recall, announced by New Zealand Food Safety (NZFS), affects nuggets with a best-before date of October 16, 2025. The product has been sold across the country in Four Square, Gilmours, New World, Pak’nSave, and Social Supermarket stores.

Why Are These Nuggets Being Recalled?

The recall was triggered after a customer complaint regarding the presence of blue rubber pieces in the nuggets. While no injuries have been reported, the contamination poses a potential choking hazard and could cause other health risks if consumed.

What Should Consumers Do?

NZFS is urging consumers who have purchased the affected product to stop consuming it immediately. Instead, they should:
Return the product to the store for a full refund
Dispose of it safely if returning it is not an option

Anyone who has already consumed the nuggets and feels unwell should seek medical advice.

How Did This Happen?

While the exact cause of contamination has not been disclosed, foreign object contamination in food manufacturing typically occurs due to equipment malfunctions or packaging defects. NZFS is working with the manufacturer to identify and rectify the issue.

Food Recalls: A Growing Concern?

This incident highlights growing concerns over food safety in processed products. Similar recalls have occurred globally, including a recent Perdue chicken nugget recall in the U.S. due to metal fragments found in frozen products.

Experts recommend that consumers:
🔹 Stay updated on food recalls by checking official safety websites
🔹 Inspect food products before consumption
🔹 Report any suspected contamination to authorities

Final Thoughts

Food safety remains a top priority, and swift recalls like this help protect consumers. If you have the affected Pams Chicken Nuggets, follow the recall instructions and stay vigilant about food safety alerts.
