MSC Launches New Direct Service to Enhance Connectivity in West Africa

Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), a global leader in container shipping, has announced the launch of a new direct service aimed at improving connectivity between North West Continent (NWC) and West Africa.

The service, which began operations in late November 2024, introduces direct calls to Angola, Congo, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, marking a significant milestone for MSC’s operations in the region.

Enhancing Trade Links

The new service is designed to provide faster transport options for dry, refrigerated (reefer), and project cargo, enhancing the flow of goods and fostering stronger trade links between Europe and West Africa. This direct connection is expected to streamline supply chains and reduce transit times for exporters and importers.

Expanded Port Rotation

The updated service rotation includes key ports across Europe, North Africa, and West Africa, as follows:

  • Europe: Rotterdam, Antwerp, Le Havre
  • North Africa: Casablanca
  • West Africa: Las Palmas, Dakar, Conakry, Lomé, Pointe Noire, Luanda

This comprehensive coverage ensures efficient transport solutions for a wide range of cargo types, supporting economic growth and development in the region.

Complementing Existing Services

This new direct service complements MSC’s existing NWC to West Africa offerings, solidifying the company’s commitment to strengthening its presence in the region. By providing tailored solutions, MSC aims to meet the growing demand for reliable and efficient shipping services, particularly in emerging markets.

Additional Enhancements

In addition to this development, MSC has announced updates to its NWC to South Africa service and launched two new shuttle services to further improve connectivity in Southern and East Africa:

  1. Namibia Express: A dedicated shuttle connecting Cape Town (South Africa) with Walvis Bay (Namibia), offering seamless transshipment for cargo destined for Namibia.
  2. Mozambique Shuttle: A service linking Walvis Bay, Maputo, Beira, Dar Es Salaam, and Mombasa, creating a vital corridor for cargo movement across Southern and East Africa.

Commitment to Africa’s Growth

MSC’s latest initiatives reflect its dedication to facilitating trade and contributing to Africa’s economic development. With enhanced connectivity and expanded port coverage, the company is poised to support the region’s growing trade demands and strengthen Africa’s integration into the global economy.

“These enhancements underline MSC’s mission to deliver comprehensive, end-to-end logistics solutions for our customers, enabling seamless trade connections and fostering economic opportunities across Africa,” said a spokesperson from MSC.

Conclusion

The launch of MSC’s new direct service and additional shuttle offerings represents a significant step in improving trade routes and logistics in Africa.

By connecting key regions with faster, more efficient shipping options, MSC continues to play a vital role in shaping the future of global trade and economic development in West Africa.
