Microsoft Forms New AI Group Under CEO Satya Nadella’s Leadership

In a bold move to strengthen its position as a leader in the AI space, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has announced the formation of a new AI engineering group named CoreAI – Platform and Tools.

This strategic move consolidates the company’s Developer Division, AI platform teams, and members from the Office of the CTO to create an advanced AI platform that will empower Microsoft and its customers with cutting-edge artificial intelligence capabilities.

The newly formed division will be led by Jay Parikh, a seasoned former Meta executive who joined Microsoft in October 2024.

Parikh, now reporting directly to Nadella, is set to spearhead the development of a robust AI platform that integrates across the company’s vast ecosystem, enabling the creation of intelligent tools and services for both developers and end-users.

The announcement of CoreAI aligns with Microsoft’s ongoing strategy to embed artificial intelligence at the core of its product development.

Nadella highlighted that AI is no longer just a supplementary feature but a transformative force that will change how software is built and used across industries.

As part of the vision for this new group, AI will play a pivotal role in automating processes and enabling the creation of custom applications at scale.

In addition to CoreAI, Microsoft is intensifying its focus on consumer-facing AI products. In March 2024, the company formed a separate AI unit dedicated to innovations in tools like Copilot, Bing, and Edge.

This unit is headed by Mustafa Suleyman, the former CEO of Inflection AI. Suleyman, along with the majority of Inflection AI’s staff, transitioned to Microsoft to lead the development of these key consumer-facing products.

In a move that underscores Microsoft’s confidence in the power of AI, the company also secured a $650 million deal with Inflection AI to gain exclusive access to its advanced AI models.

Microsoft’s ambitious AI efforts reflect a broader industry trend of tech giants racing to harness the power of artificial intelligence.

By forming CoreAI and continuing to expand its AI divisions, Microsoft is positioning itself at the forefront of AI innovation.
