Joann Fabrics Announces Nationwide Stores Closing Amid Bankruptcy

In a major blow to crafters and DIY enthusiasts, Joann Fabrics and Crafts has announced the closure of all its stores nationwide following its Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing.

The retail chain, which has been a staple for fabric, sewing supplies, and home decor for over 80 years, will shut down operations as part of its restructuring process.

The news of Joann’s stores closing has left many customers scrambling to use their remaining gift cards, as the company has set a deadline of February 28, 2025, for their redemption.

After this date, all gift cards and store credits will no longer be honored. Online services, including Joann’s website and mobile app, have also ceased accepting gift cards as the company winds down operations.

Reports indicate that Joann’s financial struggles stemmed from declining foot traffic, increased competition from e-commerce platforms, and rising operational costs. While the retailer attempted to boost sales through promotions and discounts, it ultimately could not sustain profitability.

The closure of Joann Fabrics’ approximately 800 stores marks the end of an era for the crafting community.

Many longtime customers have expressed disappointment, calling the loss of Joann a significant setback for hobbyists and small business owners who relied on its extensive selection of materials.

As liquidation sales begin, Joann shoppers are advised to check their local store for final deals before doors shut permanently.

The company has yet to announce an official final closure date, but sources suggest it will be completed by mid-2025.
