In accordance with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines, banks across India are closed today, Saturday, December 28, 2024, as it is the fourth Saturday of the month.
As per banking norms, all public and private sector banks remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month, in addition to Sundays.
The decision to implement these bi-monthly Saturday closures was introduced to provide a better work-life balance for bank employees. Since its introduction, this schedule has been widely accepted by banking professionals and the general public.
While physical branches are closed, online and digital banking services remain operational. Customers can still access various banking facilities, such as fund transfers, balance inquiries, and bill payments, through internet and mobile banking platforms. ATMs are also functional for cash withdrawals and other basic services.
Banking services will resume on the next working day, Monday, December 30, 2024. Customers who have urgent banking requirements are advised to plan accordingly and utilize alternative channels, such as online banking, to address their needs during the closure.
The RBI’s calendar of bank holidays is made available to the public at the beginning of each year to facilitate better planning for businesses and individuals. In addition to the second and fourth Saturdays, banks also observe regional and national holidays, which vary across states.
For further updates, customers are encouraged to check with their respective banks or visit their official websites.
