Alabama Power Restores Service After Winter Storm Cora

Alabama Power has made significant strides in restoring power to communities across the state following the impact of Winter Storm Cora.

The storm, which brought heavy snowfall, icy conditions, and frigid temperatures, caused widespread power outages, leaving thousands of residents without electricity.

At the peak of the outages, more than 15,000 customers were affected, with the storm’s icy grip causing extensive damage to power lines and infrastructure.

Alabama Power deployed an all-hands-on-deck response, mobilizing crews across the state to tackle the widespread disruptions. As of today, the utility company has restored power to 95% of the affected customers.

“Our teams have been working around the clock in extremely challenging conditions to ensure that homes and businesses regain electricity as quickly and safely as possible,” said Mark Cross, a spokesperson for Alabama Power.

“We are grateful for the patience and understanding of our customers during this time.”

The company’s rapid response included collaboration with out-of-state utility crews to expedite the restoration process.

More than 1,200 personnel were on the ground addressing damaged lines, downed trees, and icy roads. Priority was given to critical facilities such as hospitals, emergency services, and care centers.

Safety and Preparedness

Alabama Power has also reminded customers of the importance of safety during extreme weather events. Residents are urged to stay clear of downed power lines and report outages immediately via the company’s online outage portal or hotline.

Additionally, the utility has been sharing tips on generator safety and conserving energy during peak demand periods.

Looking Ahead

While the majority of power has been restored, Alabama Power continues to address isolated outages and monitor weather conditions. Crews are inspecting the grid for potential vulnerabilities to ensure resilience against future storms.

Customers can check the status of their area using Alabama Power’s online outage map or by contacting their support team.

The company has expressed its commitment to improving infrastructure and enhancing preparedness for extreme weather events as part of its ongoing mission to serve the state reliably.

Community Response

Despite the challenges posed by Winter Storm Cora, many residents expressed gratitude for the swift action taken by Alabama Power and emergency services.

Local communities also rallied together, offering support to neighbors and sharing resources.

As Alabama recovers from the storm, the efforts of utility crews and the resilience of its residents serve as a reminder of the importance of preparedness and community spirit during difficult times.
