Air Transat Drops Free Carry-On for Cheapest Fares on Select Routes

Effective February 11, 2025, travelers purchasing Eco Budget fares for flights to and from the South (excluding Peru), the United States, and domestic Canadian routes will only be allowed one personal item, such as a handbag or small backpack.

Traditional carry-on suitcases will no longer be included in these fares and must be checked for an additional fee.

Meanwhile, passengers who opt for the Eco Standard fare on these routes will continue to receive both a personal item and a standard carry-on bag.

However, checked baggage will be subject to additional fees under the revised policy.

The airline clarified that these changes will not impact flights to and from Europe, Morocco, Peru, or travelers who book Transat all-inclusive packages, which will maintain their existing baggage allowances.

Air Transat stated that the move is part of its efforts to offer competitive pricing while adjusting to the rising costs of airline operations.

“We remain committed to providing affordable travel options while ensuring flexibility for passengers who wish to customize their travel experience,” a spokesperson for the airline said.

With this adjustment, Air Transat joins a growing list of airlines that have introduced stricter baggage policies for budget fares, aiming to streamline operations and reduce costs.

Passengers are encouraged to check the airline’s website for full details on baggage fees before booking their flights.
