Over the years, Rhenus South Africa has experienced exceptional growth and development. The company has been on an upward trajectory, doubling the number of TEUs handled in the past ten years. Furthermore, it has also significantly expanded its footprint and increased its service offering within Southern Africa.
“We take great pride in what we’ve been able to accomplish over the past 25 years,” says Managing Director Dirk Goedhart. “Our goal is to be a reliable and committed partner to our clients, whilst growing our business.”
Plans are underway to extend the South African footprint in 2022 with the opening of a new branch in Gauteng province. Additionally, the company’s warehousing space will be expanded in KwaZulu Natal in the new year. Further in the future, the Rhenus Group will be looking to expand its African network by 2025 through new partnerships and acquisitions.
Rhenus South Africa began as WACO in Johannesburg in 1996 before rebranding to World Net Logistics in 2002. In 2020, a new era was launched when it officially became Rhenus Logistics South Africa, after being acquired by the German-headquartered Rhenus Group.
Highlighting the importance of providing opportunities, Goedhart says that over 140 new positions have been created since 2019, whilst 160 employees and unemployed youth have been supported with industry relevant Learnerships. “All our employees have contributed to the success of the company with thousands of instances of world-class service. We are proud to support our youth by offering experience and training at Rhenus.”
