Scan Global Logistics Expands into Egypt, Strengthening Its MENAT Regional Presence

Global logistics powerhouse Scan Global Logistics (SGL) has announced the opening of its new operations in Egypt, marking a significant step in its strategy to deepen its presence across the Middle East, North Africa, and Türkiye (MENAT) region.

The company’s new regional head office, located at the City Stars Complex in Cairo, will serve as the hub for its Egyptian operations, with additional offices expected to open over the next 6 to 12 months.

“We are excited to strengthen our presence and foothold in the MENAT region by expanding into Egypt,” said Allan Melgaard, Global CEO of SGL.

“With a clear vision for growth in the Middle East, North Africa, and Türkiye, we are well-positioned to lead the logistics sector in the region, offering unparalleled services and innovative solutions to serve our customers.”

Strategic Move into a Growing Market

SGL’s entry into Egypt comes at a time when the country’s logistics and warehousing sector is on an upward trajectory.

The market, valued at EGP 110 billion in 2023, is forecasted to grow steadily through 2029, driven by infrastructure investments, regulatory reforms, and trade facilitation measures.

These government-led initiatives are part of Egypt’s broader effort to position itself as a global logistics and trade hub, making the country a natural choice for SGL’s latest regional investment.

Egypt: A Gateway Between Continents

Sitting at the intersection of Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, Egypt’s strategic position—bolstered by its control of the Suez Canal—makes it one of the world’s most critical trade arteries.

The country’s role in facilitating intra-African trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) further enhances its appeal as a logistics gateway between East and West.

Experienced Leadership for a Strategic Launch

The new Egyptian operations will be headed by Ahmed Habib, an industry veteran with more than 20 years of experience in logistics, including leadership roles at Damco, Maersk, and FedEx.

Habib will lead a team of experienced professionals offering a full suite of logistics services, from ocean, air, and road freight to project cargo management, warehousing, and supply chain solutions.

“Establishing direct operations in Egypt allows us to maintain full control over local operations, ensuring compliance and service excellence,” said Habib.

“Our goal is to deliver world-class logistics solutions to both local and global customers, leveraging SGL’s global network to drive efficiency and growth.”

With this expansion, Scan Global Logistics continues to execute its global growth strategy—cementing its position as a key player in one of the world’s most strategically located and rapidly developing logistics markets.
