Jan Spies, Scout Motors’ Chief Production Officer, Passes Away at 54


The automotive industry is mourning the loss of Dr. Jan Spies, Chief Production Officer at Scout Motors, who passed away at the age of 54.

Spies, a seasoned executive with over two decades of experience in automotive manufacturing, was instrumental in shaping Scout Motors’ production strategy and the development of its new manufacturing facility in Blythewood, South Carolina.

Dr. Spies joined Scout Motors in early 2024, bringing with him a wealth of experience from the Volkswagen Group.

He played a crucial role in the establishment of Volkswagen’s Chattanooga, Tennessee, production campus, which began operations in 2011.

His expertise and leadership were key to advancing Scout Motors’ goal of producing rugged, electric off-road vehicles under the revitalized Scout brand.
