The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is making significant strides in its Phase 4 expansion project, which aims to enhance the metro network across the National Capital Region (NCR).
With a total of 44 new stations expected to be operational by the end of the financial year 2026-27, this expansion is poised to transform public transportation in Delhi.
The Phase 4 project will introduce five corridors spanning approximately 85.9 kilometers, with three priority corridors—Janakpuri West to RK Ashram Marg, Aerocity to Tughlakabad, and Majlis Park to Maujpur—leading the charge.
These corridors are critical for improving connectivity and reducing congestion in key areas of the city.
As of now, DMRC has successfully operationalized a 2.8-kilometer stretch from Janakpuri West to Krishna Park Extension on the Magenta Line. This marks the first completed section of Phase 4, with further extensions planned to be completed in phases by 2026.
A senior DMRC official confirmed that while this initial section is operational, the remaining work on the priority corridors is progressing steadily.
The total project cost for these expansions is estimated at around ₹24,948.65 crore, with significant investment aimed at ensuring timely completion and operational efficiency. The DMRC has also emphasized the importance of adequate funding to avoid delays and cost overruns.
In a recent communication, DMRC managing director Vikas Kumar highlighted the need for a regular flow of funds to meet project deadlines and fulfill financial obligations associated with ongoing works.
Once completed, these new stations are expected to accommodate an estimated 1.5 million passengers daily, significantly easing travel for residents across Delhi and its suburbs.
The expansion not only aims to improve last-mile connectivity but also supports regional development by linking residential hubs with commercial centers.
With ambitious plans and ongoing construction efforts, the DMRC is set to redefine urban mobility in Delhi.
The opening of 44 new metro stations by 2026 represents a crucial step towards building a more accessible and efficient public transport system, ultimately benefiting millions of commuters in the capital city.
As work continues on these vital corridors, stakeholders remain optimistic about the future of Delhi’s metro network and its role in shaping sustainable urban transport solutions.
